Tathagata Satpathy is a well-known Journalist by profession who became an Indian politician. Well, the political journey of Tathagata Satpathy started in the 1980s when he made a connection with Sri Biju Patnaik and joined the Janata Party. At the same time, he was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly and became an MLA in 1990.

After some time, the Janata Party collapsed and changed the name of the party to the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). In the year of 1998, he was appointed as the 12th Lok Sabha by defeating the Kamakshya Prasad Singhdeo. He has also served the duty of Member of Standing Committee on Finance Member, Consultative Committee, Ministry of Urban Affairs and Employment in 1998-99.
