Smt. Droupadi Murmu, the Current President of India was born in 1980 in the Santali Tribal family of farmer Biranchi Narayan Tudu, in Uparbeda village of Odisha State of India. Her father and grandfather were designated as the Sarpanch of the village. She finished her early schooling at a government primary school in his native village and moved to Bhubaneshwar to finish 10th and 12 class education at Girl’s High School. After 12th, she completed his graduation from Rama Devi Women’s College. Droupadi Murmu worked as a clerk in the Irrigation department for a short period.

She also known as Durgi Biranchi Tudu contested in the local body election as the independent contestant for re reserve SC seat of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat and was elected as the councilor. Droupadi Murmu joined the BJP and contester from the Rairangpur assembly constituency in the 2000 state assembly election. She served two terms as the MLA from the same constituency till the BJD and BJP alliance ended in state politics. Droupadi Murmu contested in the 2009 Lok Sabha election but she lost the contest. She headed BJP as the district president of BJP ST Morcha till 2015. Later, she was sworn in as the governor of Jharkhand by PM Narendra Modi-led BJP government in 2015.
