K. Chandrashekar Rao or KCR, politician, and leader of the opposition in the Telangana legislative assembly was born in the small village of Chintamadaka in 1954. KCR was brought up in the family of Raghava Rao and Venkatamma with nine sisters and an elder brother. He finished his schooling in his native place and moved to Osmania University Hyderabad and obtained a master’s degree in Telugu Literature. His political journey started during his college years as a member of the Youth Congress Party.

KCR is known for the prominent leader who initiated the separate statehood of Telangana in his political career. After leaving as a member of the Indian National Congress party he joined Telugu Desam Party and served as the minister of Drought and Relief in the state assembly government led by NT Rama Rao. K. Chandrashekar Rao first contested as an independence candidate from the Siddipet Assembly constituency of Andhra Pradesh state in 1983. He was defeated by a Congress candidate by just 800 votes. KCR always has thought of separating Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh. He started departed from the Telugu Desam party in 2001 and founded Telangana Rashtra Samiti.

KCR (K. Chandrashekar Rao) moved up with his demand for a separate state and supported the Indian National Congress Party with his demand for Telangana State after forming a government in the center in the general election of 2004. He served as the cabinet minister of Labour and Employment. KCR resigned from the cabinet minister and withdrew his support to the UPA government. He again won the general election in 2009 and started a hunger strike with separate statehood. Dr. Manmohan Singh led the UPA government to finally initiate the the Telangana state. The first Telangana state assembly election was held with the general election of 2014 and Telangana voters gave KCR massive support. Chandrashekar was sworn in as the first Chief Minister of the state in 2014.
