Uddhav Thackeray, Son of the renowned Hindu activist and politician Late Shri Bala Saheb Thackeray was born in 1060 in Mumbai. He was the youngest son of the three sons of Bala Saheb Thackeray and his mother Meena Thackeray. Uddhav completed his schooling in Mumbai and joined the JJ Institute of Applied Art in Photography. He joined politics with his father by attending various political meetings, rallies, and campaigns in Maharashtra state. Uddhav officially joined politics as a member of the Shiv Sena party, which was founded by his father Bala Saheb Thackeray.
He was appointed as the star campaigner in the BMC election in 2003. Later, Uddhav Thackeray came into the limelight and noticed the voters in the BMC election performance. He was appointed as the Chief Editor of Saamana Newspaper, the political Mouthpiece of the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. In 2006 his elder brother Raj Thackeray left the Shiv Sena and founded his political party by the name of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). Aditya Thackeray elder son of Uddav Thackeray also joined politics and campaigned in the Maharashtra State assembly election 2019 and General Election 2024.

After the separation of his elder brother from Shiv Sena Udhav led the Shiv Sena as the president from 2006 to 2019. Uddhav Thackeray broke the alliance with the BJP and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in 2019 and created the Maha Vikas Aghadi Alliance with Sharad Panwar and the Indian National Congress Party. He left the Shiv Sena president post and took oath as the 19th Chief Minister of Maharashtra state in 2019. Uddhav Thackeray lives in Mumbai with his family, wife Rashmi Thackeray, and two children.
