Doraisamy Raja, an Indian Politician and ex-member of the Rajya Sabha who currently serves as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India, was born on 3rd June 1949 in Chithathoor, Vellore District, Madras State, Dominion of India (present-day Tamil Nadu, India). D Raja belongs to the Dalit family of Vellore district. His father, P. Doraisamy, and mother, Nayagan, were landless agriculture workers. He attended Vellore district government school and completed a B.Sc from GTM College in Gudiyattam. He also completed a B.Ed from Government Teachers College in Vellore. D Raja was the first graduate from the Dalit village. 

During primary school, he only survived on midday meals, but in high school, he often went hungry because his mother could not afford lunch for him, and there was no fee for males. D. Rajaj struggled in his life and faced many obstacles, but he never gave up. While in college, he joined and became active in student politics. Raja met his Annie Raja at the All Indian Youth Federation; they are members of this federation. He married her on 7 January 1990. Annie Raja is now the general secretary of the National Federal Of Indian Women wing of the CPI.

Mr. Raja was active in politics during his college days he joined the India Student Federation and became active in student politics. All India Student Federation is the student wing of the communist Party of India. After that, he became the leader of the All India Youth Federation and was the state secretary of the Tamilnadu unit from 1975 to 1980. After serving as the state secretary he was elected as General Secretary of All India Youth Foundation from 1985 to 1990. He also served as the National secretary of the Communist Party of India from 1994 to 2019. On 21 July 2019, the National Council of the CPI elected him as a General secretary of the party. D. Raja is still serving as the general secretary of the Communist Party of India.
