Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Indian politician and current President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference was born on 21 October 1937 in Srinagar Jammu and Kashmir, India. He is the son of veteran statesman and National Conference leader Sheikh Abdullah and Begum Akhtar Jahan Abdullah. Farooq completed his schooling at Tyndale Biscoe School and his MBBS degree from SMS Medical College, Jaipur. Subsequently, he traveled to the UK to practice medicine. Farooq Abdullah married Molly a nurse of British origin they both have a son Umar and three daughters Safiya, Hina, and Sara.

His son Umar Abdulla is also an Indian politician and was a member of Lok Sabha and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Farooq Abdullah was elected to the Lok Sabha and was opposed as a founding member of the JKLF from the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency in the 1980 general election. In 2002 Farooq Abdullah was elected as the member of Rajya Sabha from Jammu and Kashmir and re-elected in 2009 he resigned from the Rajya Sabha in May 2009 and won a seat in Lok Sabha from Srinagar.

Shri Farooq Abdullah is the great politician of Jammu and Kashmir. He served as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir from 1982 to 1984. He was the 4th chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, serving three times. The first term of his service as a chief minister started from 1982 to 1984 then he was again elected as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir on 7 November 1986 and served till 18 January 1990. Third, Farooq Abdullah served as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir from 9 October 1996 to 18 October 2002.

Farooq Abdullah has been the president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference party since 2009.
