Iltija Mufti or Iltija Abdul, daughter of former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir State, Mehbooba Mufti, and current candidate of Bijbehara constituency in the state assembly election 2024. She was born into the family of Javed Iqbal Shah and Mehbooba Mufti in 1987. She grew up in his hometown with his family and did his schooling. Iltija Mufti completed her graduation from Sri Venkateshwara College, South Campus of Delhi University. After completing graduation she moved to the UK and obtained a higher degree from Warwick University.

After completing his education she returned to India and remained out of politics till 2019. Her mother was active in State politics and served as the chief minister of the Jammu & Kashmir state. Iltija started handling the media department of PDP from the back side and continuously handled the social media accounts of her mother. Iltija came in highlight after the revocation of article 370 by the BJP-led central government, which gives a special status to the J&K state earlier in the Constitution of India.

Her mother was detained under the Public Safety Act with other leaders of the state. She filed a petition against the detention of her mother and came in front of the public as a member of PDP. Iltija Mufti is first time contesting in the mainstream elections from the Bijbehara constituency as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The constituency was before known as the constituency of her mother. Iltija’s mother also started her political career in the same constituency 20 years back.

Finally, all the leaders of the state came out and the central government and the Election Commission of India announced the state assembly election in the state. Mehbooba Mufti introduced Iltija as the candidate of the election. Mehbooba herself is not contesting in the elections and gave a complete chance to her daughter Iltija to become her political successor. Now people of the state are looking at the young leader who inherited politics from her paternal grandfather Mufti Mohmad Sayed and her mother Mehbooba Mufti.
