Charanjeet Singh Channi, famous Indian politician and former chief minister of Punjab, was born on 15 March 1963 in Makrauna Village of Chamkaur in Punjab state of India. He belongs to the Ramdas/ Julaha Sikh community. Charanjit Singh did his schooling in the government school Chamkaur. He completed his law degree from Punjab University. He earned an MBA degree from PTU Jalandhar and was awarded a PhD in the 70th convocation of Punjab University by Vice Chancellor Renu Vig. Channi did PhD in political science on the topic related to the Indian National Congress.
Shri Charanjeet Singh married Kamaljeet Kaur on 25 December 1991. He is also a businessman by profession and a politician. Charanjeet Singh’s Political career started as a municipal councilor in a ward in Kharghar. He was elected as the president of the Kharar municipal council in 2002. Channi was also the leader of the opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly from 2015 to 2016. He is associated with the Indian National Congress. In the second Amrinder Singh ministry of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, he was Minister of Technical Education and Training, Minister of Employment Generation, and Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs from 16 March 2017 to 18 September 2021.

Ex-CM Charanjeet Singh Channi continuously serves as a member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly from 30 January 2017 to 16 March 2022. He won the assembly election of Punjab three times continuously from Chamkaur Sahib Constituency. After the resignation of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, he was appointed as the 16 chief minister of Punjab in September 2021. He was the first Punjabi Dalit Chief Minister of the state. During his CM tenure, he made several policies and announcements of basic welfare programs like electricity and regularised government jobs of Class D. He also started free bus service travel for students in Punjab.

Charanjit Singh Channi (चरणजीत सिंह चन्नी) contested the 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly Election from Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur legislative Assembly constituencies but lost the boss seats from the candidate of the Aam Aadmi Party. Currently, Charanjeet Singh Channi serving as a member of the Lok Sabha from Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency since 4 June 2024. Later, Channi also approved the Punjab State Commission for General Category and Navjot Dahiya was appointed its first chairman.
