Bhupesh Baghel also known as Kaka, is an Indian Politician and served as the 3rd Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh from 2018 to 2023. He was born on 23 August 1960 in Durg district. He is the son of Nand Kumar Baghel and Bindeshwari Baghel. His family’s primary occupation is agriculture. He married to Mukteshwari Baghel. They both have one son and three daughters. He belongs to another backward class Kurmi Community. Bhupesh Baghel had been an OBC face of Congress for a long time in the Chhattisgarh state.

He did his schooling at H.S. School Marar Patan. Later, Bhupesh completes his graduation and Master in Arts at Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur. Baghel’s political journey started with the college team joining the Indian Youth Congress and later becoming a member of the Indian National Congress. After serving as a party member, he became the General Secretary and Program Coordinator of the Pradesh Congress Committee. He is one of the most powerful and senior leaders of the INC. Young Bhupesh Baghel contested the election of the 1993 Madhya Pardesh Legislative Assembly from the Patan Consitiuency and won the election. Later, he was elected five times from the same seat.

In December 1998, Baghel was appointed as Minister of State, related to Chief Minister, Public Grievance Redressal (Independent Charge), Government of Madhya Pradesh in the cabinet of Digvijay Singh, and in December 1999 was made Minister of Transport. After the formation of Chhattisgarh state in November 2000, he became a member of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly. At this time, he was appointed as Minister, of Revenue Rehabilitation, Relief Work, and Public Health Mechanics under CG Governance. Baghel lost the Assembly election from Patan Seats in 2008 and also lost the Parliamentary elections in 2009 from Raipur. But, again won in 2013 and Member of the Working Committee, Chhattisgarh Assembly. In 2014-15, Bhupesh Baghel became a Member of the Public Accounts Committee, CG Government.

After handling the lost of charge and post as a member of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly. Bhupesh Baghel became the MLA from Patan constituency in Chhattisgarh. He took oath as CM on 17 December 2018 and became the 3rd Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. He also served as the President of the state unit of the Indian National Congress from October 2014 to June 2019. During his leadership, he initiated many walefare schemes for citizens including Narva, Garva, Ghurva, Bari, Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana, Godhan Nyay Yojana & Swami Atmanand English Medium School. Apart from this, he encouraged sports among youth. He also takes important steps for the upliftment of tribals.
