The state of Chhattisgarh in central India was formed on November 1, 2000, by the bifurcating Madhya Pradesh. This state is also denoted by the name”Rice Bowl of India”. Because this is the only state of India that produces a high quantity of rice, with agriculture playing a pivotal role in its economy. To manage this huge state, the government body called the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly was established in 2000 after the state was carved out of Madhya Pradesh.
There are only 90 members are directly elected by the people through a first-past-the-post electoral system. Generally, this government body is responsible for ordaining laws, debating policy issues, and overseeing the state government. The Indian National Congress, which has controlled the state since 2018 and has Bhupesh Baghel as its chief minister, is now in power (as of 2024). The Assembly is essential to the democratic governance of the state and represents its varied sociopolitical terrain.
