Dinesh Sharma is a famous politician and member of Parliament (Upper House) representing the Uttar Pradesh constituency. He was born on 12 January 1964 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. Dr. Dinesh Sharma completed his M.Com degree from Lucknow University in 1985 and then completed his DPA from the same university in 1986. He also completed his PhD from Lucknow University. His father is Shri Kedarnath Sharma and his mother is Shrimati Shanti Sharma. Dinesh married to Jayalakshmi Sharma on 16 February 2010. He is a Teacher, Educationist, and Professor by profession.

He started his political journey by joining the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. ABVP is the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh student wing. Dinesh Sharma is also associated with RSS. Later, he was appointed the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (youth wing) of the BJP. Subsequently, he was elected as the mayor of Lucknow in 2006. Then, fought the election again in 2012 and was re-elected by defeating his contestant from INC. Shri Dinesh Sharma was appointed as the National Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party on 16th August 2014, following his contribution to the party’s success in the 2014 Lok Sabha election.

However, Dinesh Sharma was not elected member of the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly but on 19 March 2017, he was appointed one of two deputy chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh. Later he was elected to the legislative council (upper house) on 9th September 2017. Dinesh Sharma was appointed as the minister of Secondary education and higher education in the Government of Uttar Pradesh and served until 22 March 2022. Brijesh Pathak replaced him as the new deputy chief minister of Uttar Pradesh in March 2022. He was named the BJP candidate for the election to the Rajya Sabha seat from Uttar Pradesh in 2017 and appointed as a Member of the Parliament, Rajya Sabha unopposed.
