Haradanahalli Devegowda Kumaraswamy also known as H. D. Kumaraswamy, is a famous politician and film producer, serving as the Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel of India, born on 16 December 1959 in Haradanahalli, Holenarasipura taluk of Hassan district, Karnataka. He belongs to a family of H. D. Deve Gowda and Chennamma. He did primary schooling at a government school in the Hassan district and finished high school at Bangalore’s MES Educational Institution in Jayanagar. H.D. Kumaraswamy completed his Bachelor of Science degree from National College Basavanagudi, Bangalore.
Kumaraswamy started his political journey, by winning the the 1996 general elections from Kanakapura. He again contested from Kanakapura in 1998 and lost to M. V. Chandrasekhar Murthy. In 1999, he contested the election from the Sathanur assembly but lost the election. In the 2004 assembly election, no single party got enough votes to form a government. Then, the coalition government of INC and Janta Dal (Secular) formed a government and Kumaraswamy was appointed as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on 28 May 2004. But, with the lack of support, the government collapsed.

He was Chief Minister of Karnataka from 4 February 2006 to 9 October 2007. In the 2018 elections in the state of Karnataka, the JD(S) was the third-largest party, but after a post-poll alliance with the Rahul Gandhi-led Indian National Congress, he was sworn in as Chief Minister on 23 May 2018. Kumaraswamy was elected as Karnataka State Janata Dal (Secular) president in 2014. He struggled many times to form the government but lost the MP support along with his coalition party MLAs. Kumaraswamy has served as a Member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from 16 May 2018 to 4 June 2024.

H. D. Kumaraswamy also played the role of Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from 31 May 2013 to 22 January 2014. He was the 18th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 23 May 2018 to 23 July 2019. H. D. Kumaraswamy won the 2024 Lok Sabha General election from Kanakapura Constituency and became the Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha. Currently, he is serving as the Union Minister of Steel and Heavy Industries since 10 June 2024. He is a top-notch, producer and director in Kannada Film Industry. Kumaraswamy also started the Kannada television channel Kasturi in 2007.
