Himanta Biswa Sarma, Politician and current Chief Minister of Assam State India was born in 1969 in an Assamese Hindu family in Jorhat, Assam. Hemanta finished his schooling form Guwahati and moved to Cotton College Guwahati for higher education. He was elected as the president of the college student union in 1991. Cotton College is known for its political value in the state as Himanta became the seventh chief minister of the state who was in the student politics of the Cotton College. After Postgraduation in political science, he completed his LLB and PhD from Guwahati University.

Shri Hemanta started his solicitor career at Guwahati High Court and joined the Indian National Congress Party as a member. He contested in the state assembly election in 2001 from the Jalukbari state assembly constituency won the election and joined the state assembly. Hemanta Viswa Sharma consecutively won from the same constituency in the 2006 and 2011 assembly elections. He served in various ministerial posts in the Congress party-led government till his political disagreement with CM Tarun Gogoi in 2014. Later, he resigned from the primary membership of the Congress party and joined the Bhartiya Janta Party then became the CM face of the state.

CM Himanta Sharma lives in Guwahati with his family, his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, and a son and a daughter. He joined the BJP after stating that he was not getting sidelined by the congress party’s high command on social media platforms. Himanta was headed as the convenor of NEDA (North Eastern Democratic Alliance) founded by the Bhartiya Janta Party to develop a party presence in the eastern states of India. In the next assembly election, he again contested from the Jalukbari constituency and won the fourth consecutive election. He was proposed as the Chief Minister of the Assam State by Sarbananda Sonowal and led the first BJP government in North East State in 2021.
