Loganathan Murugan, an Indian Politician and advocate is a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, serving as the Minister of State in the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Dr. L. Murugan was born on 29 May 1977 in Konur of Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu. He belongs to a Telugu-speaking, Scheduled Caste Arunthathiyar family. His father is Loganathan and his mother is  L Varudammal. He did his schooling at the Government School of Konur village of Namakkal district in Tamil Nadu. Murugan completed his law degree at Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law College, Chennai, and got his master’s degree and PhD at the University of Madras.

L Murugan his deeply inspired by the Hindutva Ideology during his college days in 1997, he joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. He also associated with RSS, after joining ABVP. Murugan has practiced law for at least 15 years and also served as the Standing Counsel to the Government of India at Madras High Court. As a lawyer, he has appeared in various cases on behalf of the BJP. He contested his first election in the 2011 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from the Rasipuram seat on a BJP ticket but lost the election. Again, he contested the Tamil Nadu assembly elections from Dharapuram and lost to DMK’s N. Kayalvizhi.

In his political journey, Dr. L. Murugan has served in various portfolios of the Union Government and the Bhartiya Janta Party. He served as the vice-chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) from 2017 to 2020. Later, he was appointed chief of the BJP Tamil Nadu unit on 12 March 2020. Loganathan Murugan served as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying from 7 July 2021 to 11 June 2024. He is the first from the Arunthathiyar community to be made a Union minister since Independence. After this, he was elected as a Member of the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu on 27 September 2021 and still serving. Murugan has also served as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting since 7 July 2021 and as Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs since 11 June 2024.
