The most influential female politician and current CM of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee was born in 1955 in Kolkata. Her early schooling was done from government schools till higher secondary. She joined Jogamaya Devi College, Kolkata. Mamata completed her Graduation, Master’s degree, and Master of Education & Law degree from various colleges in Kolkata city. Then she was involved in Politics since her early years of college.
She joined the Congress party and came into the eyes of the media when she danced in the car of social Activist JP Narayan in Kolkata while protesting against him. Mamata first joined parliament in 1984 as the candidate of the Congress(I) party. In her political career, she only once lost her seat to a CPI candidate in 1989, after she retained her seat in 1994, 1999, 2004 & 2009. Smt. Mamata Banerjee also served as the first female railway minister of the government of India. Later she resigned from the Congress Party and founded the All India Trinamool Congress Party in 1997.
