A Senior Communist leader, politician “Pinarayi Vijayan” who is serving as the 12th Chief Minister of Kerala State was born in Kannur District in 1945. He has 13 siblings but only three of them survived in the family of Maroli Koran and Alakkatt Kalyani. Pinarayi finished his schooling in his native village. He worked as a handloom weaver for some time before he moved to Government Brennen College, Thalassery for his graduation, CM Vijayan obtained his BA degree from the college. He has two children in his family with his wife Kamala Vijayan.

Shri Pinarayi Vijayan entered into state politics while he was studying in college soon he joined the Communist Party (Marxist) in 1964 at the age of 19 years. He served as a member of the Politburo of the CPI. He joined the Kerala Student Union and served as the Kannur district secretary of the party. Kerala Student Union later changed to the student body of the Communist Party and was named the Student Federation of India. Vijayan first contested as the candidate of CPI in the state assembly election in 1970. He has a record of youngest legislator of the Kerala State at age 25, which is still unbroken.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan lives in Thiruvananthapuram city with his family. He never contested from any constituency twice. Pinarayi won the state assembly elections in 1970, 1977, 91, 96 2016, and 2021. He was imprisoned at the time and was torcher by police in the Emergency in 1976. Later he made heart touching statement in the assembly about the toucher of the police holding a bloodstained shirt against Congress leadership. Pinarayi became the state minister after winning the election in 1996. He was the Kerala State secretary of the Communist Party of India.
