Rajnath Singh, former CM of Uttar Pradesh and current defense minister and member of the 18th Lok Sabha of the parliament was born in a small village Bhabhaura, of Chandauli district in 1951. He is the younger of two sons of a farmer’s family of Ram Badan Singh and his mother Gujarati Devi. Rajnath Singh completed his primary schooling at the local government primary school of his village and moved to the Government Inter College Chandausi to complete his intermediate. He completed his Master of Science degree in Physics from Gorakhpur University. Rajnath Singh worked as a Lecturer of Physics at Mirzapur University after completing his education.

He was inspired by the ideology of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) from childhood. Rajnath Singh was associated with RSS as a volunteer till 1972 before becoming the Shakha Karyawahak of Mirzapur. He was also inspired by the ideology of Jaiprakash Narayan and was imprisoned for 2 years at the time of Emergency. After coming out of Jail, he joined JP Narayan and founded the Janata Party. Later, he joined the Bhartiya Janta Party and was the one of Initial members of the BJP. He served as the minister in Kalyan Singh-led UP state assembly government in 1991.

Shri Rajnath Singh served as the Union Minister of Transport in 1999 in the Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led government before he served as the Uttar Pradesh State Chief Minister in 2000. He resigned as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh after withdrawing support of Mayawati led Bahujan Samaj Party. Rajnath Singh was called up by Atal Bihari Vajpayee as the minister of Agriculture in central government.

He was appointed as the National President of BJP in 2005. He resigned from the presidency in 2009 after general election 2009. Once again he was appointed as the BJP president after the resignation of Nitin Gadkari in 2013. He is the leader who proposed Narendra Modi as the face of the Prime Minister in the general election of 2014.
