Shri Rakesh Tikait born on 4th June 1969 is an Indian Farmer activist and national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU). He was born in Sisauli town of Muzaffarnagar Uttar Pradesh his eldest brother Naresh Tikait is also the National President of the BKU. The hereditary title ‘Tikait’ carried by Rakesh and his family members, was the title granted to the head of Baliyan Khap by Raja Harshavardhana, the Jat ruler of Thanesar in the 7th century. Chaudhary Rakesh Tikait is known for his bold speech against the Modi Government and he is one of the leaders who opposed the 3 Farm Laws which were introduced back in 2020 by the Union government.

Tikait had contested the 2007 UP Assembly elections from the Khatauli seat as a candidate of the Bahujan Kisan Dal (BKD) party with Congress support, only to finish a distant sixth. In the 2014 Indian general election, he fought on a Rashtriya Lok Dal ticket from the Amroha Lok Sabha constituency. Rakesh Tikait graduated with an M.A. from Meerut University and then did LLB afterward. He joined Delhi Police in 1992, as a constable and then Sub Inspector, but left Delhi police in 1993-1994. After leaving the police, he joined the BKU and worked for the welfare of Indian Farmers (Kisan) as an activist.
