Sarbananda Sonowal is a prevailing Indian Politician from the Assam state and has been serving as the Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways since 2021. Moreover, Sonawal has also been a Member of the Rajya Sabha representing Assam since 2021. He was born on 31 October 1962 in the Muluk Gaon located in the Dibrugarh district of Assam. Sarbananda belongs to an Assamese Hindu Sonowal family where his father is Jibeswar Sonowal and Dineswari Sonowal (mother). As per the details, he was raised as a very good child and went to Don Bosco High School, Dibrugarh for his schooling.
To continue his education, he has completed his B.A.(Hons) in English from Dibrugarh Hanumanbax Surajmall Kanoi College under Dibrugarh University. Sarbananda Sonawal has also pursued his LLB from Dibrugarh University and B.C.J from Gauhati University. During college time, he was attracted to politics and decided to enter into the political field.

Shri Sarbananda Sonawal entered the political field in 1992 when he was elected as the President of Assam’s oldest student body and the All Assam Students Union (AASU) till 1999. In the year of 2001, he was appointed as the MLA from the Moran constituency of Assam and also became a Lok Sabha member representing the Dibrugarh constituency in 2004. To get a small and big position he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2011.
In addition to being a member of the BJP’s National Executive, he was named president of the Assam Unit in 2012. He was chosen by the BJP to lead the Lok Sabha elections in Assam State in the 2014 general election. In the year of 2016, Sarbananda Sonowal won the Assembly Election from Majuli Constituency and became Chief Minister of Assam.
