Sonia Gandhi, Edvige Antonia Albina Maino, before marriage, is a Politician, Former President of the oldest democratic party, Indian National Congress, and current member of the Upper House (Rajya Sabha) of the Parliament of India. She was born in Veneto, Italy in 1946 and married Rajeev Gandhi, the elder son of former Indian Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi in 1968. She changed her name to Sonia Gandhi and both tied the knot in a Traditional Indian Marriage ceremony. She and her husband remained out of politics till 1981.
