Yogi Adityanath or Ajay Mohan Singh Bisht, Monk of Gorakhnath Math, and current chief minister of Uttar Pradesh was born in 1972 in the small village of Panchur of Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand (earlier Uttar Pradesh). His father shri Anand Pratap Singh was a forest ranger, mother was a homemaker. He was the second of four siblings in the family. Ajay Bisht completed his early schooling at the government school of his village and moved to Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Srinagar Garhwal to complete his graduation. He came close to his uncle Yogi Avaidhyanath, Mahant of Gorakhnath Math in the Ayodhya Ram Mandir movement in the 1990s.

Young Ajay Bisht left his home and started living with his uncle in Gorakhpur. A boy Ajay Mohan Singh became Yogi Adityanath and was promoted as the Mahant of Gorakhnath Math in 2014. He founded the Hindu Yuva Vahini youth organization. Yogi Adityanath joined the Bhartiya Janta Party and contested in the Lok Sabha election in 1998 from Gorakhpur constituency and won the election and became the youngest MP at the age of 26 years. Yogi continuously won the Gorakhpur constituency in 2004, 2009, and 2014 general election. After winning the state assembly election in 20017 under the star campaigner Yogi Adityanath, he was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

He looks after all the management and social service work for the visitors of Gorakhnath temple as the Chief Priest of the Math. He was selected as the star Campaigner of the Bhartiya Janata Party in the state assembly election. Under his leadership, BJP won the assembly election with a majority in Uttar Pradesh. Yogi became the chief minister of the state after winning the assembly election in 2017. He again won the state assembly election in 2022 defeating SP, INC, and other major parties in the state.
